Singapore, 22 February 2007 - Epson, a world leader in digital imaging, announced the launch of the EPSON AcuLaser C3800N and C3800DN laser colour printers.  The duo form the latest additions to Epson's AcuLaser line and are designed as the ideal A4 laser colour printers for small to medium businesses and large corporations requiring the perfect balance of quality, productivity and security. 

Both laser colour printers boast a secure printing feature which allows printing from a USB thumbdrive, as well as password-protected PDF printing for times when confidentiality matters.  In line with Epson's reputation of developing easy-to-use products, both printers integrate a graphics-based user interface for intuitive usage and easy maintenance. 

USB direct printing and smart security features without additional hardware
Printing directly from a USB thumbdrive means instant printing without a PC.  This is a great feature especially when ad hoc printing needs to be done on the spot.  Also, by bypassing a computer, businesses reduce the risk of unintentionally leaving confidential trails when they print from a workstation. 

The USB direct printing feature supports a wide range of common file formats including JPEG, TIFF, PDF and the full suite of Microsoft Office formats*.  Overall, direct printing can help businesses eliminate the need to set up a costly network and the need to dedicate a PC as a printer server. 
 

For businesses which need to restrict access to ensure documents are printed with permission, the C3800N and C3800DN also feature secure printing.  Sensitive PDF documents can be saved onto a USB thumbdrive and inserted into the printers, and only printed when a correct password is input.  Even if unauthorised users attempt to use a computer to print the password-protected PDF documents, they would still be required to manually input the password on the printer's control panel.  This security feature works to prevent any potential confidentiality breaches.   

Increase productivity with high speed printing and intelligent toner management
The AcuLaser C3800N and C3800DN both print at speeds of 25 pages per minute (ppm) for monochrome and 20 ppm for full colour documents.  Using a 600MHz high speed CPU, large print jobs can be processed quickly and the printers also feature fast first-page-out-time (under 10 seconds) regardless of paper source, and short warm-up time of 30 seconds. With a maximum monthly print volume of 60,000 pages and the capacity to hold 700 sheets (upgradable to 1,250 sheets), large print jobs can be dealt with swiftly.

The AcuLaser C3800N and C3800DN also satisfy modern business demands for high quality printouts.  Professional text and photo realistic quality are achieved with AcuLaser's Colour 4800 RIT (Resolution Improvement Technology).  So whether it is colour-rich presentations, text heavy sales proposals or images from a company retreat, businesses can be assured of sharp and clear prints every time. 

To ensure continuous printing, if one of the colour toners runs empty before the print job is completed, the AcuLaser C3800N and C3800DN will automatically revert from colour to monochrome to finish the job.  This unique feature saves time and the frustration of having to change the toner and re-print whole sets of documents.  As compared to similar printers in its class, AcuLaser C3800N and C3800DN both run on higher capacity initial toner cartridges (for 9,500 monochrome pages or 5,000 colour pages) to further reduce printer down time and allow longer periods of uninterrupted printing.

LCD interface
The large yet simple-to-use LCD interface on the control panel displays live status information including printer operation status and toner levels.  By using a series of easy to understand graphic representation and simple text, the AcuLaser C3800N and C3800DN can also guide users to resolve minor faults such as paper jams and toner change via the LCD screen.

Both laser colour printers can be easily integrated into existing IT infrastructure, which is an important consideration for all businesses. The printer will interface with a range of connectivity options including Hi-Speed USB (2.0 compatible) and Ethernet, and supports printer languages including PCL6, Adobe Postscript 3TM and ESC/Page Colour as standard.

Both printers present a great business case for small and medium workgroups with continuous worry-free usage and a high degree of inbuilt security.  For complex jobs, the standard memory (128MB) for both printers can be expanded to 1GB.  The C3800N retails at S$1868.  For businesses which require duplex printing, the C3800DN offers this capability at S$2068.  Both laser printers will debut at the IT Show 2007 in Singapore from 8 - 11 March 2007, Suntec City Exhibition Centre.

*  To direct print Microsoft Office files, documents need to be converted to EPN format using the "USB Print Maker" tool which comes with the printer driver.
