Since September, there was a lot of concern on the rising number of dengue fever cases. On 2 October 2005, Epson Singapore once again showed its support for the community via epBUS, a mobile digital imaging classroom managed by youths, for youths, by participating in an event to drive home the dengue prevention message. The epBUS youth volunteers took photos of Young Ambassadors and superimposed them onto Epson-sponsored posters - to be put up in various areas within a residential district in Singapore.
Adding a splash of color and creativity to the anti-dengue campaign, the epBUS youth volunteers drove home the anti-dengue message by designing and printing some 300 posters, and managing the photo-taking station during the event. Ms Jeanette Aw, Actress and Youth Champion of Heartware Network, was also present to extend her support to the youth and the campaign. Prior to the event, the youth volunteers managing epBUS visited various primary schools and roped in more than 1,000 children as Young Ambassadors for the campaign posters.
Addressing the increasing trend of children being infected with dengue, Community In Action Day urged the community to take active responsibility in ensuring a dengue-free environment for our children. During the event, the public was educated on the five quick ways of eliminating Aedes mosquitoes through various engaging activities - which included games, a children art competition, performances and an exhibition put up by the National Environment Agency.
