Epson Supports To Singapore with Love Photo Project in Celebration of Singapore’s 40th Year of Independence

"This project is of great value to our society and for our art culture in encouraging photography endeavours and celebrating our nation."

Singapore, 4 August 2005 - Epson, the world's leader in digital imaging solutions and printer manufacturing, are currently preparing for the To Singapore with Love (TSWL) photography exhibitions, aiming to promote the photographic talents of the nation.

On 9th August 2005, Singapore will celebrate its 40th year of independence and to commemorate this occasion, Mr Kwek Leng Joo, Managing Director of City Developments Limited, has initiated a photo project with the aim to publish a world-class photo art book.

Having built a reputation for producing fine quality prints for various exhibitions locally and internationally, Epson was invited by the TSWL Steering Committee, to print the images for the TSWL exhibitions. "We are indeed grateful for Epson's support of the TSWL photo exhibitions. With Epson's quality prints of the captivating images from this photo book, the exhibitions will certainly be a treat for the eyes of visitors." said Lee Tiah Khee, the chairperson of the pictorial sub-committee.

Epson is preparing print outs of the images that have been selected for the TSWL exhibition. Approximately 150 images varying from A4 to A1 size will be showcased at the Istana on 7 August as part of the Istana Art Event 2005.

The prints will be produced on the EPSON Stylus Pro 4800 using the revolutionary EPSON UltraChrome K3 pigment inks that are engineered to deliver incredible print quality and colour brilliance. Epson's UltraChrome K3 ink features high-density pigments that produce prints with an extremely wide colour gamut allowing the reproduction of colours that were originally envisioned at the point of capture. The all new 8-colour ink set incorporates three unique levels of black, which along with the new colour pigment technology, dramatically improves both colour and black and white prints which last over 300 years*.

A viewing corner will also be set up to project about 330 images that will be shown on a projection screen at the Singapore Art Museum. Epson will be providing the EPSON EMP-830 projector to ensure that the images are displayed effectively.

There will be two other exhibitions - at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) from 6th to 11th August and at the new Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Gallery 1 & 2 (NAFA) from 18th to 23rd August.

Hiromi Taba, Managing Director, Epson Singapore said, "We are committed to our local communities and I look forward to the TSWL exhibition. The images on exhibit are outstanding, the standards are very high and I am truly overwhelmed with the response that the project has received. This project is of great value to our society and for our art culture in encouraging photography endeavours and celebrating our nation. In supporting the initiative, we have been able to present high quality images together with our products that allow users to go beyond their expectations and exceed their vision and we are confident of our collective skills to meet challenges with innovative and creative solutions."

Through the photo images on exhibit, printed by Epson, Singapore will be featured as a place full of life, culture, fun and people with varied interests. Produced by Singaporeans for Singapore, the book and the exhibitions will be a combined effort of local photographic talents.

The project is endorsed by the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts (MICA) and supported by the National Arts Council (NAC), Singapore Art Museum (SAM), Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and MediaCorp. On the pictorial sub-committee are five of Singapore's major photo clubs including Boon Lay CC Photographic Club, PhotoArt Association of Singapore,, SAFRA Photographic Club and the Singapore Colour Photographic Society and The Photographic Society of Singapore. The photo book will be distributed locally and abroad.
