Digital Imaging Comes of Age
Uncompromising print quality

SKYblue Digital Imaging relies on the Epson Stylus Pro series and Epson UltraChrome inks to satisfy the uncompromising print quality pursued by the world's leading artists in creating their masterpieces.

‘Giclee’ printing with Epson

SKYblue Digital Imaging produces the exceptional quality digital prints of work using the ’Giclee’ process. ’Giclee’ (zheclay’) is derived from the French word meaning "squirt" and is known in art circles as a digital method of reproducing fine art.

Today, almost all Giclee prints are produced on large format inkjet printers capable of producing millions of colors using digital technology.

SKYblue is not only relied upon by artists, art publishers, and art galleries for end-to-end imaging services, but is also trusted by the world’s leading fine artists -- like Anthony Green RA -- to reproduce and create original artwork.

Epson delivers high performance

Daren Meaker, co-founder of SKYblue says: "The printers we use are the single most important factor in maintaining the outstanding print quality that we offer our clients. So when we launched the business in June 2002, we spent a great deal of time and effort studying the output of every Giclee printer on the market and were finally able to find a high-performance printer at Epson." Now, SKYblue uses only Epson printers; two Epson Stylus Pro 9600 and two Epson Stylus Pro 10600 printers, that feature Epson UltraChrome ink to satisfy their exacting demands.

Clarity, longevity and accessibility with Epson

SKYblue founders printed a highresolution digital image on every Giclee printer available and concluded that the range provided by the Epson Stylus Pro was the best. Fundamental to this decision was the unsurpassed range of UltraChrome inks that are specifically designed by Epson to combine the vibrancy and brightness of dye-based inks with the longevity and light-fastness of pigments. This achievement is a first for the industry.

No compromise

Meaker continues: "Until the advent of these new inks, people had to choose between brightness of color and lightfastness. That’s a compromise artists aren’t prepared to make. But now, thanks to the UltraChrome range, they don’t have to. And I believe that’s why high profile artists like Anthony Green RA are prepared to trust their artistic reputations to the ’Giclee’ process."

Mr. Anthony Green RA

“Epson printers have entirely revolutionized the way I create my art. The ‘Giclee’ printing with Epson’s technique gives an artist exactly the same degree of flexibility as oil paint, whilst losing none of the vibrancy and accuracy of the color.”

The virtues of “Giclee”

Anthony Green RA had a very clear vision of what he was trying to achieve — a vision, it turned out, that could only be fully realized with the help of SKYblue Digital Imaging and Epson.

Mr. Green says: "I choose SKYblue Digital Imaging to do my Giclee work because of the astounding quality of the sample prints they showed me. But like many artists, I had my doubts about using technology to create original artworks. For the Resurrection series, I didn’t want the texture of oil, but I did want that richness of color. And from the results I’ve had with Epson printers and the UltraChrome inks, I’m entirely convinced that the Giclee process gives an artist exactly the same degree of flexibility as oil paint, whilst losing none of the vibrancy and accuracy of the color."

He also commented: "I’m really excited by the results of the combination of the Epson machines and the vibrant, rich and UV resistant UltraChrome inks. Working with SKYblue and their Epson printers has allowed me to turn my artistic vision into reality — much more easily and accurately than was ever possible before."
